Must Love Dogs (2005)
Diane Lane stars in another formulaic Romantic Comedy that reminds me of her character in "Under the Tuscan Sun." She plays Sarah Nolan a divorcee who has been single for too long. She tries meeting guys via online dating sites at the urging of her sister played by Elizabeth Perkins.
She goes on various dates with strange guys and finally meets one decent guy Jake, played by John Cusack. Another typecast actor in a very predictable film. They meet at a dog park with borrowed dogs and have a fairly awkward first meeting. She starts to fall for the handsome, charming guy Bob, played by Dermot Mulroney. As expected, the handsome guy is a liar, and the average guy is the good guy. She can't seem to find her way to the good guy until the end of the film. She goes after him in a contrived manner by hitching a ride with a rowing team, and then jumping in the water to catch up to him while he is rowing his handmade skull.
I saw this movie because it was marketed to make you believe the main theme had to do with dogs. The dogs were hardly even a thought. The film had some funny moments, and made watching it bearable. The movie was filled with major stars such as Christopher Plummer and Stockard Channing, and just seemed to be a waste of their talents.
This is another film that is ok to watch for the heck of it. There's nothing great about this movie. It's more like a movie of the week. This film gets a Howl!
