Finding Nemo (2003) [Click on th Pic]
Finding Nemo is Pixar's biggest hit having grossed over $300 million dollars in the United States alone! As always, Pixar delivers stunning visuals in this Oscar winning film. This fun and heart warming tale is about Marlin, a Clownfish (Albert Brooks), going in search of his son Nemo. Nemo was captured by a scuba diver and ends up in a dentist's aquarium. During his search, Marlin is accompanied by a forgetful Blue Tang fish named Dory (Ellen Degeneres).
The story develops as Marlin and Dory escape sharks who are trying to give up on eating fish. They find the mask belonging to the diver who captured Nemo. The mask has his address that only Dory can read. The film progresses as things become a bit slap sticky as Dory's forgetfulness drives the uptight Marlin crazy. They continue on and get in trouble in a school of Jelly fish. Dory gets hurt and and they wake up on the back of Crush (Andrew Stanton), a 150 year old Sea Turtle. They are zipping along in the EAC (East Australian Current) a sort of underwater expressway. Marlin gets some fatherly advice from Crush, tells his story about looking for Nemo, and eventually ends up in Sydney harbor. The story about Nemo spreads throughout the ocean. Marlin and Dory encounter more adversity by ending up in a whale's stomach and being nearly eaten by a flock of seagulls. Rescued by Nigel (Geoffrey Rush) a Pelican, he flies up to the dentist's office with them in his mouth. Their attempt to rescue Nemo is thwarted by the dentist. All the fish in the tank make an all out effort to help Nemo escape. He shoots out of the tank and goes down the drain of a spit sink out to Sydney harbor. Dory bumps into Nemo in the harbor and reunites him with his dad. She gets caught in a fisherman's net and is rescued by Nemo. Marlin comes to see his son can "Do It!" The movie closes with them all back in their reef as a family.
This movie touches on the age old problem of a parent letting go. It also points out how much a parent can love their child. Marlin comes to realize his son is capable in spite of his small fin. He also comes to realize that Dory was more capable than he gave her credit for as well. When they're in the whale's stomach, a poignant moment occurs when Dory tells Marlin the whale said, "It's time to let go!"
As with any great story, it makes its points without preaching to you. It does so with humor and subtlety. The action keeps you engaged and on the edge of your seat. The movie is incredible to look at and the cast is superb! The direction is worthy of the Oscar the film received.
It is hard to believe it has already been four years since it came out. If you haven't seen it, go out and buy it today! This film gets a big, happy Tail Wag!
