A Face Only A Mother Could Love?

By: Tadashi Rubright

Have you ever seen a face like the face of a bulldog? It truly is a face that only a Mamma Bulldog could love. The English Bulldog we know today, started it's life in England back in the 1700s. They were mainly used for bullbaiting during the middle ages. Most bulldogs are born with the help of Caesarian Section due to the birth canal being too narrow for the puppies. Bulldogs are known to be very stocky and extremely strong. Their looks make them appear to be great guard dogs. Even though this breed may seem a bit intimidating, the Bulldog is usually a friendly breed that loves attention and children. Males can grow as large as 50 pounds, while females stay around the 40 pound mark. Please be aware that this breed can grow much bigger. They are normally, quiet but when this breed barks it does so loudly! One of the main complaints about Bulldogs is stubbornness. The breed does have a tendency to be harder to train because of its unusual desire not to exercise. Bulldogs would prefer relaxing at home than taking a long walk. Bulldogs do need exercise to avoid becoming overweight. Demanding exercise can be dangerous to the Bulldog due to it's physical body shape. This breed can
easily become exhusted and overheated. They also don't do well being left outside for a long period of time. If this is a breed you're considering to get as a pet, please keep these issues in mind. Health issues for this
breed may include hip dysplasia, cataracts and cherry eye. Training a bulldog requires patience and gentle repetition. A Bulldog's natural desire to please, does help make training them easier. Before deciding to bring this breed into your home, please remember that Bulldogs are naturally very strong and sturdy. This living "tank" can cause both unwanted and accidental destruction to your home. Training is the key to making this breed a happy and well-behaved member of your household.
