Separation Anxiety is a common problem amongst Pooch Lovers! It is primarily caused by the owner smothering the dog with too much love and attention. Don't let it on your bed, furniture, or take it with you everywhere. Rotate toys by giving one in the morning and one at dinner time, while making it seem to be a big reward. This focuses what the dog should chew on and makes it feel special. We don't want your dog to fear you've abandoned them. Give them healthy space, and don't give attention unless it is calm and sitting on the floor. Be consistent, diligent and your pooch will settle down and feel much better.

Destructo Dog
You've heard the term Separation Anxiety. It's caused by many little things, but mainly because you love your dog too much! Yes, you can love your dog too much. This problem manifests because people constantly pickup the dog, let their dog on their furniture, let the dog sleep in their bed, and simply make the dog far too emotionally dependant on them. We combat this by putting healthy space between the owner and the dog, setting clear expectations and by using tactics to deal with destruction.
The first thing we do is to stop smothering the dog. Don't constantly pick the dog up. Don't let it on your couch, and do not let it sleep in your bed. These things simply confuse the dog about who's the boss, and what healthy boundaries must exist. Only give the dog attention when it is calm and sitting on the floor.
Next, we are going to pickup all the toys that you've lavished on your pooch. Put them in a closet and get three bags. You'll go to what we term, a "3 Bag Toy Rotation." Here you'll put 2 toys in three separate bags. Each day in the morning, you'll give your dog one toy. You need to make a big deal about it, as if it is a huge reward. Later around dinner time, you'll give the second toy and repeat. At the end of the day, you'll pickup both toys and put them back in the closet. You'll do this every day, over and over, by rotating through the bags. This focuses the dog on what it should chew on, keeps it from getting bored, and makes it feel special.
If you are an owner who takes your dog everywhere with you, that can be a serious problem as well. You must give your dog his/her space. They must realize the world will be safe without you around at every moment. Don't make you pooch a "Mamas Boy!"
Be dligent, consistent, and your pooch will start to realize that life is good.
